01 Product Overview

The OPT-Line ISO 7 is a robotic coating line built specifically for automotive optical parts — headlamp lenses, rear-lamp lenses, reflectors and lamp covers in PC or PMMA. It combines a six-axis painting robot, an overhead conveyor, a positive-pressure cleanroom enclosure with multi-stage filtration, an LED UV curing tunnel and an electric curing oven into one PLC-controlled production line.

Optical surfaces punish mistakes. A single 0.5-micron particle landing on wet coating becomes a visible defect after curing — and on a headlamp lens, that is a rejected part. The OPT-Line is engineered around that reality: clean air in, stable laminar airflow across the part, repeatable robot paths, and controlled curing, so every piece leaving the line meets the same finish standard.

02 What "ISO 7" Actually Means

ISO 7 is a cleanliness class defined by the international standard ISO 14644-1. In plain terms: no more than 352,000 particles of 0.5 micron or larger per cubic metre of air. In the older naming convention it is called a “Class 10,000” cleanroom. The smaller the ISO number, the cleaner the room.

Each step down in ISO number means ten times fewer particles allowed:

ISO Class

≥0.5 µm particles / m³

Why 0.5 micron matters

A human hair is about 50 microns thick — one hundred times larger than the particle size ISO 7 controls. These particles are invisible to the eye, yet on a wet optical coating each one becomes a visible bright spot after curing. That is why optical coating lines work to ISO 7 rather than to a general industrial standard.

03 The Four Conditions That Make a Room ISO 7

Fitting a filter does not make a room ISO 7. All four conditions must be met together:

1 · HEPA terminal filtration

Pre-filter G4 protects the downstream stages, bag filters F7/F9 remove fine particulate, and HEPA H13/H14 terminal filters in the ceiling plenum remove 99.95% or more of the remaining particles before the air reaches the part.

2 · High air-change rate

ISO 7 typically requires 30 to 60 air changes per hour. The constant dilution is what keeps particle count down while the line is running — a 900 m³ coating unit at 40 ACH needs roughly 36,000 m³/h of supply air.

3 · Positive pressure

The clean zone is held at a higher pressure than the surrounding area, so when a door opens, air flows outward. Dirty air can never drift in. Pressure is monitored and alarmed by the PLC.

4 · People and material control

Operators are the largest particle source — a walking person sheds tens of thousands of skin flakes per minute. Airlocks (SAS), tacky mats, cleanroom garments and changing rooms (Vestiaires) are not optional extras; they are part of the classification.

04 Process Stations

Stations are configured to the customer's coating system and part geometry. The reference configuration for PC lamp lenses is shown below.

Function

1

Loading & fixturing

Lenses loaded onto racks at floor level; 16 pcs per rack as standard.

2

Pre-treatment / de-dusting

Ionised air blow-off removes particles before coating.

3

Robotic hard coating

Six-axis robot applies the UV-curable hard coat inside the filtered booth.

4

Flash-off

Controlled dwell under clean, filtered airflow before curing.

5

LED UV curing

LED UV tunnel cures the hard coat in seconds, at low substrate temperature.

6

Anti-fog coating

Robotic or manual application of the 1K anti-fog coating.

7

Electric curing oven

Electric oven with zone temperature control for thermal cure or preheating.

8

Cooling

Filtered cooling section brings parts to handling temperature.

9

Unloading & inspection

Parts exit the enclosure for unload and in-line quality check.

06 Why CoatTech for an ISO 7 Coating Line

Air handling is our core product

The air-handling unit that serves a spray booth — filtration, laminar supply, temperature and humidity control, exhaust and heat recovery — is standard equipment we manufacture, not a subcontracted extra. For a 900 m³ coating unit this is a well-proven scale for us.

Honest about scope

Our strength is the coating line and the air system that serves it. A plant-wide central HVAC system is a different discipline, and we will say so rather than overpromise. Where we are not the right supplier, we say it clearly.

Proven heavy-industry projects

Fully enclosed spray booths for 50-ton, 9.8 m transformer tanks in Jubail, Saudi Arabia; a 15 × 7 × 6 m retractable booth for a European steel-structure manufacturer; a four-unit custom programme in Russia.

Energy efficiency built in

Smart VFD energy-saving control and EcoSmart cross-flow plate heat recovery cut the fresh-air load — which is the single largest operating cost on a 100% fresh-air coating line.

07 Frequently Asked Questions

Q Is ISO 7 really necessary for lamp lenses?

A For optical parts, yes — it is the industry norm. A particle invisible to the eye becomes a visible defect once the coating cures, and on a lens that means a rejected part.

Q Can you supply the whole cleanroom, or only the coating unit?

A We supply the coating line and the cleanroom enclosure and air-handling system that serves it. A plant-wide central cleanroom HVAC system — central AHU battery, chiller plant and building-wide BMS — is normally handled by a specialized cleanroom HVAC contractor.

Q How much air does the 15 × 12 × 5 m unit need?

A The unit is about 900 m³. At 40 air changes per hour that is roughly 36,000 m³/h of supply air.

Q Can the line grow from 60 to 300 pcs/hour?

A Yes, but the layout must be decided up front — rack pitch, conveyor speed and curing lengths all scale with capacity, and they are expensive to change afterwards.

Q Is the line ATEX certified?

A Standard machines are CE. An ATEX-compliant configuration — Ex motors, Ex lighting, gas detection, purging and full documentation — is engineered on request for Zone 1 / Zone 2 areas.

Q Do you supply the coating material?

A No. Coating TDS is provided by you or your paint supplier, and we size the UV tunnel and oven to it.

08 Request a Proposal

Send us your part drawing or sketch, target capacity, coating system and available floor space. Our engineering team will return a process layout, a specification sheet and a budget quotation — normally within a few working days.
